The Palm Sunday Mass today started at 8.00am with the gathering at the churchyard. Fr. Stanley who celebrated the mass today gave a brief explanation about the Palm Sunday meanings, and the relation with our faith in God. He also told us about the connection between the palm leaves and our true believes in the salvation of Christ. The mass started with the Gospel reading from the Gospel of Luke. After the palm leaves being blessed by the Father, the congregation took them and started a procession lead by Father and the altar servers. They sung hymn from A.12 in the song book.
In the church, the mass proceeded as usual. Fr. Stanley in his beautiful homily talked about a parable about an apple. According to his story, a teacher asked his students about the color of an apple. Some students mentioned that the apple is red in color while others said that apple is green in color. Suddenly a boy commented that an apple should be red, green and white in color. the whole class laughed at him. In this parable, Fr. Stanley told us to be different like the boy. the boy sees something different and hidden in an apple. He sees the white side of the apple's flesh. The same thing should happen to us in our faith in God.
At the end of mass, Mrs. Kingham gave thanks to Fr. Stanley for being with us and help us in this two months. The church also presented a gift for Father. In his final speech before ending the mass, Father said he enjoyed himself in Tanjung Malim and he appreciated the people here. He reminded the Catholic in Tanjung Malim that they need to boost up their cooperation in the church through many aspect. "I don't need your money, I just want your time and your commitment", he explained before closing the mass.
Fr. Stanley is currently serving in Silibin, Ipoh at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes. He was transferred temporarily to Church of The Most Holy Redeemer Tanjung Malim last January to replace Fr. Charles Chin whose on holiday. Fr. Chin will return back to Tanjung Malim beginning April, 1 2010. Fr. Stanley will return back to Silibin. The church would like to say farewell to Fr. Stanley and welcome back to Fr. Chin!
Meanwhile the church appealed for the people to give charity through the Lenten Appeal campaign. The donors should proceed for Lenten Envelope which is available at the church entrance, and then hand it to the respective person. The donation will be used for various charity needs under the Diocese of Penang.
