New Saints Proclaim the Glory of God

The new saints proclaimed today brought to fulfilment their mission in diverse fields because they were nourished by the Bread of Life. That was Pope Benedict XVIs message to pilgrims in St Peters Square during the solemn canonisation of Arcangelo Tadini, Bernardo Tolomei, Nuno de Santa Maria Alvares Pereira, Gertrude Comensoli and Caterina Volpicelli. Saint Tadini brought the yeast of the Gospel to the world of work in the 19th century. In the 14th century Saint Tolomei began a new and singular Benedictine monastic movement. Between the 14th and 15th century Saint Nuno was a witness to the strength of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, while in the 18th century Saint Comensoli made contemplative charity...
